FOUNDER, C.E.O, & CHAIRMAN
Ed Rege
Ed is one of Africa’s foremost practitioners in institutional development; strategic planning, design and implementation; facilitation of complex multi-stakeholder processes, including program development and implementation processes, leadership and management capacity building, and executive coaching and mentoring. He has over 35 years’ experience in agriculture, having worked in different capacities – as university trainer, CGIAR researcher and science leader. Over the last 15 years, Ed has been pursuing his passion in Organizational Development focusing on leadership and management, building on his many years’ experience in managing programs in complex global multi-institutional contexts. He is the founder and CEO of ECI-Africa and Emerge Africa. Ed holds a PhD in Genetics, M.S. in Animal Science, and BSc. in Agriculture. He has also additional training in Organizational Development from various institutions. Prior to founding ECI-Africa , Ed was the Director of the Global Biotechnology Program of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
ASSOCIATE EXPERT- M&E, Vet Medicine & Animal Physiology
Vitalis Musewe
Vitalis is a biological scientist with wide ranging expertise in program management. He holds a PhD in Animal Physiology and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM), a M.Sc. in Project Management, and Diploma in Research Program Management. Vitalis has 28 years of work experience as a university lecturer, and a research manager, and station manager responsible for technical and administrative support to research at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). He also headed the human resources unit, the Institution Building Interactive Research and Information (IBIRI) program, and the capacity building program at ICIPE before joining the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) as Registrar (Research Production and Extension). Upon retiring from active employment in 2003, Vitalis has been providing consultancy services. At ECI-Africa, Vitalis provides expertise in the areas of project/program monitoring and evaluation, strategy development and review, capacity assessment, technical writing, and process facilitation, among others.
SENIOR ASSOCIATE EXPERT - SEED
Chagema John Kedera
Kedera holds a PhD in Plant Pathology (major) and Plant Breeding (minor) with over three decades of experience in agriculture/trade/policy especially in national and international standards (covering plant protection, food safety, biotechnology, plant variety protection and seed certification). Kedera has held various key positions within the continent and beyond including heading the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Annual Seed Schemes meetings, and the Food for Agricultural Organization’s (FAO) Commission for Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) in 2006-2008. He has served as: the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Advisor to the USAID – East Africa Trade and Investment Hub; Senior Technical Consultant with the USAID-Kenya Agricultural Value Chain Enterprises on horticultural issues; and Strategic Advisor for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) on the development of a Regional Access to Seed Index for Eastern Africa, Seed Counterfeiting, Integrated Seed Systems and, Support to National Seed Trade Associations. Kedera was also the Deputy Chief of Party of the USAID-Kenya Horticulture Competitiveness Project in charge of policy, standards, value chain coordination, market linkages and market information systems. Prior to this appointment, he served as the founding Managing Director of the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) from 1997 to 2010. At ECI-Africa, Kedera provides technical expertise mainly in the strategic design, development and implementation of seed research and systems projects.
ASSOCIATE EXPERT -Agriculture Infomation Systems, ICT4D & Agricultural Economics
Hillary Nyang’anga
Hillary is a Research Fellow at the University of Nairobi, Department of Agricultural Economics. He is a specialist in agricultural marketing systems, and Information and Communications Technologies for Development (ICT4D) with extensive experience in agricultural marketing research, project management, designing & development of information and communication systems, agricultural policy formulation and implementation, communication of agricultural policy and research, knowledge management, capacity building, business development and international trade. He holds a PhD and Master’s degree in Agricultural Information & Communication Management and a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics. At ECI-Africa, Hillary provides leadership support in the design, development and implementation of various projects and programs.
ACCOUNTANT
John Muluka
John provides financial support to the organisation by ensuring payments are made on time and books are accurate and properly maintained. This includes assisting in the audit procedures, payables, statutory compliance and inter-ledger reconciliation, among others. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA) having trained at KCA University. He previously worked at Gal Baking Limited, a food supply chain as sales accountant. In his work, he promotes integrity, ensures compliance with the law and helps to ensure the organization’s books give a true and fair view of the financial status.

Caroline Orek
Caroline provides administrative and project support ensuring an efficient work environment. She has pursued a certificate course in Computerize Secretarial at Dynamic college. She is currently pursuing a Diploma in Public Relations at NIBS College in Nairobi.
