Our History
2010: Registered under PICO Team
PICOTEAM is a network of organizations with a presence in Africa, Latin America and Europe that supports efforts to bring about change and innovations for sustainable development. PICO-Eastern Africa (PICO-EA) was launched as part of this network in 2010. The purpose of this model was to have chapters in different parts of the globe for the purpose of sharing networks, knowledge and co-developing products for organizational development.October 2014 – July 2018: PICO-Eastern Africa
With the passage of time, it became clear that PICO-EA was evolving and had developed its own brand. It therefore, needed to chart a separate path from PICOTEAM, but would continue to partner with PICOTEAM where appropriate and to retain some of the practices of PICOTEAM.It was further observed that PICO-EA had since positioned itself strongly as a leader in strategic planning- conceptualizing, designing and implementing; translating into support for project/program development and support in managing complex meetings, among others competencies.
August 2018: ECI-Africa
The decision to change the PICO-EA name to Emerge Centre for Innovations–Africa (ECI–Africa) was motivated by the organization’s desire to sustain our focus on supporting agricultural research and development (ARD) institutions working with and for Africa. ECI–Africa reflects our passion for championing and supporting change in the African ARD landscape through building institutions that embrace innovation, change, and learning. It aligns with our strategic focus on the agricultural transformation and growth being experienced in the continent currently and into the future. The change presents us with an opportunity to reorganize internally to become more efficient and effective in service delivery, positioning ourselves to serve more regions within the continent.
